Potawatomi State Park (Sturgeon Bay)

Ski Area Description: Potawatomi State Park offers over 8 miles of one way trails groomed for both classical and skating. Most trails are easy with some hills on the north end of the park. Cost is annual state park sticker or daily fee.
Location: south of Sturgeon Bay on Highway 42/57. Take County Road PD north to Park entrance. Follow signs to ski parking.

Conditions: Last night brought three new inches of snow to Potawatomi and trail groomers are out today, Saturday January 28th. Earlier in the week the trails were rolled after snow on Monday evening. Trail should be in fair condition again for both classical and skate skiing.
Crossroads at Big Creek (Sturgeon Bay)

Ski Area Description: Crossroads at Big Creek has over 4 miles of groomed ski trails available for the skate and diagonal skiers. Most trails are over flat terrain but a few rolling hills on some trails make for a great ski experience. Walking/snowshoe trails are well marked and groomed. Trails are free, but donations are cheerfully accepted in the contributions box at the trailhead.

Conditions: With the overnight snow of about three inches the groomer headed out and rolled all trails today Saturday January 28th. No tracks were set but the trails are very skiable. Even the open areas are now snow covered and there are very few bares patches.
Whitefish Dunes State Park (near Jacksonport)

Ski Area Description: Whitefish Dunes State Park has 9 miles (15 Kilometers) of groomed cross country ski trails and 4.5 miles (7.3 Kilometers) of ungroomed trails for hiking, snow shoeing or skiing. The Red, Green and Yellow trails are groomed for classic technique only. The Black trail and the Brachiopod trail from the picnic area to the boardwalk and the beach are not groomed and can be used for hiking and snowshoeing. Pets are allowed on the Black trail, Brachiopod trail, and the beach, but are not allowed on the groomed trails. The trailhead is next to the Nature Center. Cost is annual state park sticker or daily fee.

Grooming Fund: The Friends of Whitefish Dunes State Park recently established a Ski Trail Grooming Fund for the primary purpose funding the cost of keeping grooming equipment up-to-date. Funds are currently being raised to purchase 60" Ginzu groomer and tracksetter.
To contribute to the fund checks can be made out to the Friends of Whitefish Dunes with Ski Trail Grooming Fund in the memo, and sent to: Whitefish Dunes State Park, 3273 Clarks Lake Rd. Sturgeon Bay, WI 54235.
Notes: Whitefish Dunes does not offer skating. Call the park for the most up to date trail conditions.

Conditions: Last night brought new snow and the trail groomers are out right now working on the trails. Main Red Trail was rolled Wednesday January 25th so this new snow should help significantly. Note that the Whitefish Dunes Candlelight Ski or hike is today January 28th. A decision will be made later this afternoon based on the trail groomers report as to whether this will be a ski or a hike.

Ski Area Description: Peninsula State Park offers 16 miles of groomed, mostly double tracked ski trails, for beginners to expert, both skate and diagonal. Skaters have access to 6 miles of trails groomed for both classical and skate skiing. Hilly topography makes the skate trails more difficult. Easier to more difficult double tracked diagonal trails can be accessed from Lot 5. Follow signs to the warming house just a short ski from parking lot. Cost is annual state park sticker or daily fee plus a State Trail Pass.
Location: To get to Lot 5 travel north of Fish Creek on Hwy42 to intersection of Cty Rd A. Take a left at A, this road inside the Park is called Highland Rd. and follow signs. To access skate loops and more difficult trails (hills) enter the park at the main entrance and go to Lot 3, trail begins across road. Skate loops are also groomed for single track diagonal. Trail passes required.

Notes: The roads in Peninsula Park are excellent to ski on when they are open during periods of low snow. There are some long, excellent climbs.
Conditions:Snow depth in the park is two inches with many bare spots. There is not enough snow to groom ski trails and snowshoe trails are in poor condition due to lack of snow.

Ski Area Description: Newport State Park offers 12.5 miles of groomed and single track classic only. Groomed trails include Europe Bay, Newport Trail, and Fern Trail. Parking for trail best trail access and warming shelter is lot 3. Ranger station, nature center, and heated bathrooms(24/7). Cost is annual state park sticker or daily fee.
Location: 5 miles north of Ellison Bay. Take Highway 42 north to County Road NP(New Port), turn left(south) and follow signs to park.
Notes: Does not offer skate skiing. The area groomed least often of all skiing destinations, but offers the most remote experience
