Road Biking the Door

My brother is here from Madison, a place of monumental hills as judged by Door Couny standards. Made a few phone calls and Sat morn had a group of 4 organized. As we got into the bike, Craig was happy to have flat terrain that didn't elevate him to zone 4. Exercising early is not one of my things, and the 8:00 departure was atypical for me. But it did tune me in to when many bikers are riding. Starting just North of Sturgeon Bay on Bay Shore Drive, we encountered numerous groups of riders- some riders near our relatively experienced level and others recreational cyclists. Was tremendous to see the number of bikers out riding. It seemed there were more bikers out than I have ever seen riding.

Door County has a remarkably diverse system of roads instituted for agriculture use years ago. Myriad route choices make your head spin. I consider a heavy traffic pattern seeing more than 1 car every 10 minutes. I ride most often around Sturgeon Bay, as I reside here, and have put together a few cycling routes that start from the main business district.

Take advantage of the Tuesday and Wednesday night rides in Sturgeon Bay. Both rides leave at 5:30. Visit THIS for more info. If heading further north, stop at Nor-Door Sports in Fish Creek. Their new store is well organized and they'll have riding maps for the northern door location.
