Crossroads at Big Creek (Sturgeon Bay) Enter along Michigan ST just east of the intersection of Michigan and HWY 42/57 in Sturgeon Bay. (920) 746-5895.

Conditions:   Trails are still fair to good with only a few bare spots.  Conditions are better when the temperatures are below freezing such as early in the morning.  Trails have not been groomed this week.

Notes: Skaters asked to not skate on narrow trails where we have only space for classic track. (there are only a couple trails). Donation appreciated.

Cherry Hills Nordic Center  (Sturgeon Bay) 5736 Walker RD, Sturgeon Bay (920) 743-0272, latitude44@gmail.com

Conditions:   Last groomed Mar 4. Diagonal tracks have suffered in areas because of warmer weather, but are still fair. The skate lane is for the most part excellent. This weekend (Mar 6-7) will likely be the last for the orchard area.

Notes: Donation appreciated- $5 donation recommended. Sign waiver before skiing.

Whitefish Dunes State Park  (Jacksonport) 3275 County WD, Jacksonport - (920) 823-2400

Conditions:  Conditions are poor to un-skiable.  No new snow in the past 7 days, last groomed February 17th.  There are many bare areas with an occasional stretch of snow with some track left, but those areas will either be glare ice or slushy depending on the time of the day.

Notes: Whitefish Dunes does not offer skating. Call the park for the most up to date trail conditions.

Peninsula State Park (Fish Creek/Ephraim) Hwy 42, Fish Creek - (920) 868-3258

Conditions:  Poor to fair.  Extremely icy in the mornings, better skiing at mid-day.  Many bare spots, but still skiable - probably time for the rock skis.  The conditions are better than expected for the weather we have had recently.

Notes: The roads in Peninsula Park are excellent to ski on when they are open during periods of low snow. There are some long, excellent climbs.

Newport State Park  (Ellison Bay) 475County NP, Ellison Bay - (920) 854-2500

Conditions:   Fair to poor conditions.  No established track.  No new snow.  We are looking forward to spring hiking!!

Notes: Does not offer skate skiing. The area groomed least often of all skiing destinations, but offers the most remote experience.

Door County Skiing Summary for March 4th
This may come as a surprise to you: there is still good cross country skiing in Door County!  This is the time of year when people often look out their car windows and assume the skiing is done.  However, most of our trails are in wooded areas and this preserves the snow from melting as fast as it does in open areas.  The bonus of longer days and mild temperatures adds up to more skiing enjoyment!  For the best conditions,  you might want to head out early in the morning or late in the evening when the temperatures are lower.  If you use waxable classic skis, don't be afraid to break out the klister.  That stuff works!  Spring is in the air but you can still ski in the area and be ready for the bike season that is around the corner!
